Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 4 oz dark chocolate
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 pint blueberries washed and gently dried

Equipment

  • 8 x 8-inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Small saucepan
  • Heatproof bowl, glass or metal, or a larger saucepan
  • Mixing spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or hand mixer
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Prepare the Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line an 8 × 8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving enough paper to help lift the brownies out after baking.
  2. Melt the Chocolate: Add about 1 inch of water to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat until it begins to boil.
Place a heatproof glass or metal bowl, or a larger saucepan, over the smaller saucepan. Add the butter and dark chocolate, then stir as they melt.
  3. Finish Melting: Continue stirring until the butter and chocolate have completely melted together into a smooth mixture. Remove the bowl from over the saucepan and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  4. Dissolve the Sugar: While the chocolate mixture is cooling, add the brown sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved into the mixture.
  5. Add the Wet Ingredients: When the mixture is warm but no longer hot, add the vanilla extract and room-temperature eggs. Beat well until everything is thoroughly combined.
  6. Combine the Dry Ingredients: Add the salt, all-purpose flour, and cocoa powder to the chocolate mixture. Stir until the batter is evenly combined and no streaks of flour remain.
  7. Fold in the Blueberries: Gently fold in half of the washed and dried blueberries, taking care to distribute them throughout the batter.
  8. Fill the Pan: Transfer the brownie batter to the parchment-lined baking pan and spread it into the pan.
  9. Bake the Brownies: Bake at 350°F for 30–35 minutes, until the brownies are baked through and set.
  10. Cool Before Serving: Allow the baked brownies to cool before removing them from the pan and slicing into 8 brownies.

Notes

  • Use room-temperature eggs so they combine smoothly with the warm chocolate mixture.
  • Let the melted butter and dark chocolate cool until warm rather than hot before adding the eggs.
  • Wash the blueberries thoroughly and gently dry them before folding them into the batter.
  • Fold the blueberries in carefully to help prevent them from breaking apart excessively.
  • Line the 8 × 8-inch pan with parchment paper for easier removal after baking.
  • The source gives a baking range of 30–35 minutes, so avoid baking beyond the stated range without checking the brownies.
  • Allow the brownies to cool before slicing for cleaner portions.
